Do-It-Yourself Updates That Can Increase Home’s Value By More Than $20,000

Do-It-Yourself Updates That Can Increase Home’s Value By More Than $20,000

Simple, affordable do-it-yourself projects such as cleaning and de-cluttering and just adding lighting can help increase a home’s resale value.

HomeGain, an online real estate marketing resource, surveyed nearly 600 real estate professionals in creating a list of the top do-it-yourself home improvement projects that offer the biggest return for your buck.

Overall, the home improvement projects that boasted the highest price returns were updates to the kitchen and bathroom–an estimated $3,435 price increase for resale. Painting the outside of the home ($2,222 price increase) also offered one of the highest returns, according to HomeGain.

As you can see from the above chart just cleaning and de-cluttering with a cost of $209 benefited the home owner by $1,990 in value.

Bobbi and I have just listed a home (105 Winding Way, Columbia, SC MLS #308350) where the homeowners went above and beyond the normal effort; new hardwoods, landscaping front and back yard around the pool, out of the box de-cluttering. This house could have been a TV show; the transition is breath taking. If you are Realtor or buyer client call 803-553-3740 to schedule a showing.
